Your questions answered

Why buy a temporary engagement ring?

Temporary engagement rings have become increasingly popular. Buying a temporary engagement ring can have several advantages. It allows the couple to focus on the sentimental aspect of the proposal without the immediate financial burden of an expensive ring. It can also provide an opportunity to choose the final ring together, ensuring it perfectly suits the recipient's taste. Additionally, it offers flexibility to later upgrade to a more permanent and precious ring, marking important milestones in the relationship.

What is the ring made of?

Despite being a temporary ring, it's made of quality materials. The ring itself is made of sterling silver so there's no risk of your fiance's finger turning green as with other cheaper rings. The ring has a moissanite stone the equivalent size of a 1 carat diamond. Moissanite is a stone that to the naked eye is almost identical to a diamond, it's nearly as hard as diamond and has more brilliance meaning it has more sparkle.

How are you able to offer the ring at such a competitive price?

Most of the cost of an engagement ring is in the diamond, we choose to use a moissanite stone in our rings as they sparkle like a diamond and are similarly durable while being far more cost effective. Offering a single size and style allows for economies of scale which we can pass on to you.

What type of diamond do you use?

To keep our rings affordable as a temporary ring, we use a moissanite stone rather than a diamond. Choosing moissanite over a diamond offers several advantages. It's more budget-friendly, durable and moissanite's exceptional brilliance make it a dazzling alternative to a real diamon. Additionally, its ethical sourcing and eco-friendly production in laboratories appeal to those concerned about the environmental and social impact of the jewelry industry.

What is moissanite?

Moissanite is a naturally occurring mineral composed of silicon carbide. It was first discovered in 1893 by Henri Moissan, a French scientist, in a meteorite impact crater. However, most moissanite used in jewelry is now created in laboratories due to its rarity in nature. It is known for its remarkable brilliance, fire, and hardness, making it a popular alternative to diamonds in jewelry, particularly in engagement rings. Moissanite's optical properties give it a radiant sparkle, and its hardness makes it durable for everyday wear. It is often chosen for its beauty and ethical considerations, as it is not sourced from conflict zones like some diamonds.

Moissanite are a very hard and durable stone, just like diamonds. On a scale called the Mohs scale, moissanite gets a score of 9.25, while diamonds score a perfect 10. Despite moissanite not being quite as hard as a diamond, it shines more with colorful flashes. This happens because of something called the refractive index. Moissanite's refractive index is 2.65 to 2.69, which is higher than the 2.42 for diamonds. The refractive index is about how well a stone bends light. Moissanite's "fire" rating is 0.104, while diamonds have a lower rating of 0.044. This means moissanite creates more colorful flashes of light, making it look even more dazzling.

How big is the diamond?

Our moissanite stone is the equivalent of a 1 carat diamond. To translate that into something more tangible, a 1 carat round-cut diamond typically has a diameter of about 6.5 millimeters. The average size of diamond in an engagement ring is between 0.5 carat and 1.0 carat, meaning this stone is towards the upper range of the typical diamond in an engagement ring.

How much would this ring cost with a real diamond the same size?

The vast majority of the cost is in the diamond, as a result lab-grown diamonds have become a popular alternative to natural diamonds. A white gold ring in the same style with a 1-carat natural diamond would likely cost in the region of £3,500, but this cost would come down to closer to £1,000 if you were to opt for a lab-grown diamond of the same size.
